Jim Drums learned to play drums in public schools and Universities, as well as private lessons, on-line sources, and lots of experience. He became first-call drummer for jazz gigs, Broadway musicals, and other gigs requiring notation reading and quick learning. His jazz swing feel was sought out for many of those jazz gigs, including big bands. He grew up listening to classic rock and loves playing the drums in all styles. He is active in the local music scene.

Jim Drums started teaching at age 16 at a music store. He continued his studies and earned a bachelor's degree in music education. He has incorporated modern drum teaching methods in his teaching practice. But he also has the background to teach drums “by-the-book.” Jim Drums is currently teaching from his drum studio via Zoom and is available for in person sessions and clinics.
